Atlético Madrid delivered a crushing 6-0 defeat to Celtic in their Champions League Group E encounter, leaving the Scottish club on the brink of elimination from the competition.

Antoine Griezmann and Álvaro Morata both netted two goals apiece, while Samuel Lino and Saúl Ñíguez added one each to complete the rout. The home side dominated from start to finish, taking control early on when Daizen Maeda was sent off for a reckless challenge on Mario Hermoso.

Atlético capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Griezmann opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Morata doubled the lead just before half-time, and the floodgates opened in the second half. Griezmann scored his second with a stunning volley, and Lino and Morata added further goals to make it five. Saúl rounded off the scoring with a late strike.

The victory sees Atlético move top of Group E, while Celtic are left rooted to the bottom with a single point from four matches. The Scottish side’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages are over, and they could now be eliminated from the competition altogether.
